What is Mobile Cardiac Telemetry?

Mobile Cardiac Telemetry is relatively new technology to enter the world of Ambulatory Cardiac Monitoring. This technology is significant as it is a real time ECG monitor that has the capability to automatically detect any ECG abnormalities and automatically transmit this ECG information via cell phone technology to an accredited diagnostic laboratory for professional review.

These monitors can record how fast your heart is beating, whether the rhythm of your heartbeats is steady or irregular, and the strength and timing of the electrical impulses passing through each part of your heart. Information from these recordings is then reviewed live and reports are made for your doctors to diagnose an arrhythmia, or irregular heartbeat, and check whether treatments for the irregular heartbeat are working.

The MCT use is for monitoring patients having more high risk arrhythmias or symptoms.

State of the art monitoring system

At Complete Cardiology Care, we only use tools that we would use on ourselves or family members. With us you get the best of the best. We partner with VivaQuant to bring you Rhythm Express - the latest  in cardiac  monitoring.

The RX-1 mini is a patch-style remote cardiac monitor offering three ways of collecting and presenting data (auto-trigger, patient trigger and heart rate trend), to provide an unparalleled level of flexibility, customization and accuracy. A 2-in-1 patient monitor, the RX-1 mini can be operated as a Mobile Cardiac Telemetry unit or Event Monitor.

Unique to the RX-1 mini device is VivaQuant’s proprietary MDSPTM  technology for high-clarity ECG recording. The result is extremely accurate arrhythmia and event detection, even in the most undesirable, noisy or challenging environments.

The RX-1 mini is waterproof. It also features long battery life - a single charge lasts 5 days. All monitoring is done US- based. It is lightweight and fits in the palm of your hand. And best of all - no wires to get tangled in like traditional monitors.

  • How is Mobile Cardiac Telemetry (MCT) performed in Daytona Beach, FL?

Electrodes (small conducting patches) are placed on your chest and attached to a small recording monitor that you can carry in a pocket or in a small pouch worn around your neck. The monitor is battery operated.

The monitor records and transmits data through an internal cellular device where actual people review your heart rhythm just like in a hospital.

Your heart electrical activity is recorded (much like the recording of an ECG), usually for a weeks while you enter in symptoms directly to the device. The recording is then analyzed, a report of the heart's activity is tabulated, and irregular heart activity is correlated with your activity at the time.

The device will allow you to log in symptoms and events.

  • How do I prepare for Mobile Cardiac Telemetry (MCT) in Daytona Beach, FL

There is no special preparation for the test. The recording monitor will be started by the health care provider, and you will be given instructions on how to replace electrodes should they become loosened.

Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any tape or other adhesives. Shower or bathe before you start the test and try to avoid lotion while wearing the monitor as they can prevent electrodes from sticking properly.

Be available for phone calls as it could be your doctor calling about findings.

  • Why is Mobile Cardiac Telemetry (MCT) testing performed?

Mobile Cardiac Telemetry (MCT) is used to determine how the heart responds to normal activity - over 2 weeks. Other times event monitoring is used include the following:

    • When given cardiac medication
    • After a heart attack
    • To diagnose an abnormal or dangerous heart rhythm
    • Determine what procedure may be needed to correct an arrythmia
  • How does Mobile Cardiac Telemetry (MCT) feel?

There is no discomfort associated with the test. Hair may need to be shaved from the chest for electrode placement. You must keep the monitor close to the body, either in a pocket or in a pouch worn around the shoulder or neck.

Continue normal activities while wearing the monitor.

  • What are the risks of Mobile Cardiac Telemetry (MCT)?

There are no risks associated with the test. However, you should be sure not to let the monitor get wet.
